The first ever Women and Girls Abuja Summit was held on the 13th and 14th of October 2014 as part of the International Day of the Girl Child which comes up on the 10th of October every year. In attendance at the summit were distinguished leaders including the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as well as representatives of select ministries and organizations. Over 1500 women and 200 girls were present.

The event which took place over two days had the theme of ‘Reinforcing the Agenda of Girl- Child Education’. The expected outcome of the summit is the development of an all inclusive policy framework that will help government achieve its objectives of addressing the immediate and long term needs of the Girl Child in Nigeria and particularly areas of Education, Health, Safety, Security and Economic empowerment.
