Trust Women is a fast growing movement working to put the rule of law behind women’s rights through concrete action. This year the Trust Women’s conference in London took place from the 18th-19th of November 2014. Imara Foundation attended this truly global conference and it was really inspirational. The themes for the 2014 conference were; Slavery in the supply chain; Women and Finance; Making Cities safer for Women; and Women and the right to Land Ownership. The caliber of the participants and speakers was first class and 30 key actions on the above themes were committed to at the end of the 2 days. The end of the 2014 conference witnessed the launch of the ‘End Child Slavery Week’ by 2014 Nobel prize winner Mr. Kailash Satyarthi commencing on the 24th- 28th November 2014. Attendees at the launch committed to working towards the eradication of modern day slavery especially as regards women and children. This year the Trust Women Hero Award, celebrating an innovator whose bold thinking and high impact work enables women to know and advance their rights went to Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, the Founder of BRAC an international development organization running great development initiatives in the developing world. The Trust Women 2014 journalist awardee was Nigeria’s own Chika Oduah recognizing her significant contribution to the cause of women’s rights.

One of the many take home commitments for Imara Foundation is a commitment to create awareness around child slavery which is subtly rampant in our own home country. To learn more about the work of Trust Women visit www.trustwomenconf.com
